Route running is one of the most underrated and underscouted skills in wide receiver evaluation. The ability to consistently create separation against varying coverage shells — man, zone, bracket — on every type of route in the tree is what separates receivers who thrive in the NFL from those who fall off. A receiver who can win on the Go route but struggles against off-man on crossing routes, or one who dominates against zone but gets pressed off his stems in man coverage, will find the NFL a much more difficult adjustment than his college production might indicate.
This article tracks every charted route rep for the top WR prospects in the 2027 class, breaking down success rates by route, coverage type, bracket coverage usage, and alignment. Success is defined as winning the rep — creating visible separation or forcing a defender to make a play on the ball — regardless of whether the receiver was targeted. A receiver who runs a perfect post route and draws a safety rotation counts as a success even if the ball goes elsewhere; a receiver who is draped on at the top of his dig and still hauls in the catch does not automatically get credit.
Game selection follows the same methodology as the QB accuracy charts: conference games, rivalry games, bowl games, and CFP games are prioritized. Blowout wins over FCS competition are generally excluded. The goal is to evaluate the prospect against competition that mirrors what they will face in the NFL.
